Knowlton Henge Yews

Taxus baccata · Blandford Forum, Dorset, England · SU 024 102

A ruined Norman church stands inside a Neolithic henge. Yews grow on the banks of a sacred circle laid out some 4,500 years before the parish. The trees are not as old as the henge — nothing living is — but they complete one of Britain's strangest stacked landscapes.

The age comparison that matters here is church vs henge, not tree vs church. Included because the site is the type-case of reused sacred ground.
