Florence Court Yew

Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata' · Fermanagh, Northern Ireland · H 175 344

Around 1760 a farmer on the Florence Court estate found two unusual columnar yews. One was planted at the house; every Irish Yew in the world — Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata' — descends from this tree by cuttings. A living cultivar origin story, not an ancient wild giant.

Documented horticultural origin. Essential for arborists; a different kind of 'oldest'.
