Borrowdale Yews

Taxus baccata · Cumbria, England · NY 235 125

Wordsworth's 'Fraternal Four of Borrowdale' stand above the Derwent, 'those fraternal Four of Borrowdale, joined in one solemn and capacious grove.' One of the four has since collapsed. They are wild-grown mountain yews, not churchyard trees — a different British tradition.

One sibling is a remnant; the grove is still living. Status reflects the surviving trees.
